Alabama Hotline for Mental Health

Alabama faces challenges in terms of access to mental health care, particularly in rural areas. According to the Mental Health America’s “The State of Mental Health in America” report (2021), Alabama ranked 45th out of 51 (including the 50 states and the District of Columbia) in terms of access to mental health care.

Alabama’s mental health care system has seen budget cuts in recent years, which has impacted the availability and quality of mental health services. Substance abuse is often intertwined with mental health issues. In Alabama, like in many other states, substance abuse is a concern, and efforts are being made to address this issue through prevention, treatment, and recovery programs.

In terms of suicide rates, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that in 2019, Alabama had a suicide rate of 18.5 per 100,000 population, which was slightly higher than the national average.
