Suicide is a serious concern related to mental health. In 2019, Missouri had a suicide rate of 19.5 per 100,000 population, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Suicide rates can vary by age group, gender, and other factors.

Missouri Department of Mental Health services for the Division of Behavioral Health (DBH) are accessed through 25 service areas, with each service area serving particular counties of the state. Community Mental Health Centers and/or Affiliates are responsible for providing these services. These agencies determine a person’s eligibility for services and provide those services. Founded in 2008, the Missouri Mental Health Foundation (MMHF) is a non-profit organization established to provide a singular focus on raising awareness and public understanding of the many issues impacting individuals and families living with mental illness, developmental disabilities and substance use disorders.
NAMI Missouri
NAMI Missouri is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization and was founded in 1986 to provide education, support, and advocacy on behalf of people with serious mental illness and their families regardless of race, religion, or national origin. In 1997 the organization’s name was changed from Missouri Coalition of Alliances for the Mentally Ill, Inc. to NAMI of Missouri, which is the official name as registered with the Missouri Secretary of State’s Off The NAMI helpline number is (800) 950-6264
