Suicide is a serious concern related to mental health. In 2019, Nebraska had a suicide rate of 20.1 per 100,000 population, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Suicide rates can vary by age group, gender, and other factors.

Nebraska faces challenges in terms of access to mental health care services, particularly in rural areas. The state has been working to improve access through initiatives such as telehealth services and the integration of mental health services into primary care settings. However, there are still barriers to care, including workforce shortages and limited insurance coverage.

Nebraska offers various mental health resources to its residents. The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services provides information and resources on mental health services and programs. Local community mental health centers, private therapists and counselors, and crisis hotlines are available throughout the state.

Substance use disorders often co-occur with mental health conditions. Nebraska has been addressing substance abuse issues, including opioids and methamphetamine, through prevention, treatment, and recovery support services. Integrated approaches are being implemented to address both substance use and mental health concerns.
